Michael Freedman is the editorial director at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Until January 2012, he was CISAC's public affairs manager and senior editor. Prior to joining CISAC, he was Asia and Latin America editor at Newsweek, where he directed regional coverage for overseas editions. He was previously Europe editor. In these roles, he wrote feature and opinion pieces for Newsweek and Newsweek.com, and commissioned and edited pieces by professional writers and some of the world's best known scholars and public figures. He also edited a regular sports column in collaboration with top athletes, including Martina Navratilova, Gary Player and Edwin Moses.

Before joining Newsweek in 2007, Freedman spent eight years at Forbes magazine as a reporter, foreign correspondent and Europe bureau chief, where he covered international business and a broad range of political, legal and economic topics. He has reported from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and written for the digital and/or print editions of many other publications, including The Wall Street Journal and The Atlantic. Freedman's work has been cited in Congressional testimony, excerpted in text books and acknowledged for its influence on public policy. He has taught undergraduate writing and journalism.

A New York native, Freedman is a graduate of the University of Illinois (MSJ, 1996) and Emory University (BA, 1994). He is a member (term) of the Council on Foreign Relations, and has represented Forbes and Newsweek as a speaker or participant at executive conferences, the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and on television and radio programs, including on the BBC and CNN.
